The Lake
The cottage sits on the eastern shore of Sheffield Lake near its widest point which is about .4km. (1/4 mile). Sheffield Lake is a widening of the Salmon River (map) and runs north to south for about 5km (3 miles).

The waterfront is just steps from the cottage down a gentle slope. A level rock shore opens to the water. Low shrubs, grasses and sedges follow the shoreline which is dotted with pockets of pond lilies and pickerelweed. This fish habitat supports species such as largemouth bass, pike, walleye, perch, smallmouth bass and others. Muskrats enjoy the ample supply of fresh water clams as evidenced by the shells remaining along the shore.
The population of Sheffield Lake is primarily seasonal, although there are a few year round residents. The one cottage north of this property is not visible from the property, nor is the handful of cottages across the lake to the north. The rest of the east shore north of the cottage is divided into 18 waterfront lots, some of which have buildings. There are 4 barely noticeable cottage properties on the other side of the lake to the south. Crown Land occupies the western shore directly across from the cottage.
When viewing the photos below, imagine a day when the wind is gentle, the sun glints like diamonds on the lake, and you can hear the soft slap, slap of the water on the shore. The phoebe is chirping in the background as are the chipmunks and red squirrels. The dragonflies dart back and forth and the loons on the lake call to one another. Ahhhh.
